What this is

  • FireDepartment.Online is the department-facing brand of Fractal SAAS Inc., a company in Collingwood, Ontario, Canada.
  • It makes two things. FirePermit.Online is live and in use. A Standard Incident Report tool for the Ontario 2027 format is in development.
  • FirePermit.Online is burn permit management. A resident applies and pays online; the department sees every permit on a live map, declares a burn ban in one click, and receives the permit fee in its own account.
  • FirePermit.Online has been in use since 2020 by fire departments in Canada and the United States, and issues thousands of permits a year.
  • It is not a computer-aided dispatch product, and it is not a scheduling or payroll tool. The incident-reporting work is a Standard Incident Report tool, not a full records management system.
  • Nothing is sold on firedepartment.online. FirePermit.Online is bought through firepermit.online.

Status of the incident reporting tool

  • It will be ready for the 2027 filing year, and nothing about it is a condition of filing.
  • It is not available for purchase, and no price has been published.
  • The Fire Marshal’s own filing route remains available and free, and a department that files that way today can keep doing so.
  • The Standard Incident Report is a filing to the Office of the Fire Marshal of Ontario. It applies to Ontario fire departments.
  • The 2027 format applies to incidents dated 1 January 2027 or later. Incidents dated before that are filed in the 2009 format regardless of when they are written up.
  • The first quarterly filing under the 2027 format is due by 30 April 2027.

  • https://www.firedepartment.online/sir/codes — the 2027 code explorer. Enter a 2009 response, property or ignition code and it says what the code became in 2027, whether its meaning was revised, whether it moved group, or whether it was deleted with no successor.
  • It covers the three tables the OFM published a crosswalk for, plus the 51 codes and 8 fields deleted for 2027, which the crosswalk does not contain and which are otherwise only in a PDF supplied on request.
  • https://www.firedepartment.online/sir/check — the 2027 file checker. A department drops in an EMREP, FIREP, COREP or INJREP file and sees what the Office of the Fire Marshal would reject: field counts, the forbidden header row, stray commas and quote characters, timestamps, exposure-fire codes, Section C on structure fires, and codes that are not in the 2027 tables.
  • The file checker runs entirely in the browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is stored, and no account is required. It reports what would be rejected and never states that a file is compliant, correct or accepted.
  • Both are free, need no account, and ask for nothing. They are a reading of the OFM’s published pack and are not official OFM publications.
